SURVIVAL OF THE GRITTIEST

Someone emailed me an idea for the next "Survivor" show: "Six men will
be dropped on an island with one van and four kids each, for six weeks.
Each kid plays two sports and either takes music or dance classes.
There is no access to fast food. Each man must take care of his four
kids, keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, complete
science projects, cook, do laundry, etc. The men only have access to
television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done. There is
only one TV among each family and there is no remote.

"The men must shave their legs and wear makeup daily, which they must
apply themselves either while driving or while making four lunches.
They must attend weekly PTA meetings, clean up after their sick
children at 3:00 a.m., make an Indian hut model with six toothpicks, a
tortilla and one marker, and get a four-year-old to eat a serving of
peas. The kids vote them off based on performance. The winner gets to
go back to his job." (Author Unknown)

It can take some real grit to survive parenthood. Where can we find the
strength to survive the most marvelous, difficult, rewarding,
challenging, agonizing, enriching, amazing job we've ever had?
Ephesians 3:16-19 gives us the answer: "I pray that out of his glorious
riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your
inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And
I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power,
together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and
deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses
knowledgethat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of
God."

Strength/grit comes from His glorious riches. It comes from the power
our Heavenly Father gives through His Spirit who lives in us. The Holy
Spirit dwells in us because of the love and provision of God. That
really does cause us to be "rooted and established."

His love is so immense! We can do more than merely survive. In the
immense love of God, we can THRIVE! Even if the four-year-old never
eats the peas.

PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, we come to you humbled by our broken-ness and
weakness. Give us the grace to trust in your love and mercy in the
life, death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. May we
be able to see your Holy Spirit working through our brothers and
sisters especially for those who need it the most.
