EXTREMES

"(Nothing) will be able to separate us from the love of God that is
in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
Clear in my memory is a dog-eared Mother Goose book of nursery
rhymes. Thinking back, I can not imagine what was so interesting and
intriguing that my sister and I would want to hear them read over and
over to us. Remember this one? "There was a little girl and she had a
little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was
good she was very, very good, and when she was bad she was horrid."
Most of the time, I live in the middle ground, not in the extremes.
When I am kind, generous, patient, and honest, that's great. However,
when I have an adult-sized temper tantrum and am a creep, at the very
least, those are the times I need to know I am still loved.
Peter seems to be a good example of extremes. He was a passionate,
blustery fisherman, and one of the guys in Jesus' inner circle. It is
recorded in the Bible that he demonstrated extreme faith and walked
on the water to go to Jesus. Conversely, he showed the opposite kind
of faith, when he denied knowing Jesus, at a time when he could have
also been taken captive and maybe tortured and killed.
There is someone who FOREVER loves us, no matter what. He will NEVER
leave us, NEVER not love us. Never. Ever. He is the Lord of Lords,
and His name is Jesus.
That is good news.
PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, with greater joy in this Easter season, we celebrate the victory of light over darkness. We praise you and thank you with even greater fervor. Forgive us when we fail to manifest this reality in many different areas of our lives. Grant us the grace to be more open to you. Allow your light to transform us, so that we may enable it to shine through us. Amen.
