GETTING IT THROUGH
By Sally I. Kennedy

A year after our country was shattered by the evil terrorism perpetrated on 9-11, there were many TV programs related to those incidents. One man interviewed had lost a daughter on one of the airplanes that crashed. After giving a few details of her promising young life, he was asked what had gotten him through the past year. He said he had returned to running, and explained that had given him the strength to get through it.

I thought, “What is it that gets people through tough times?” When something devastates you, knocks the pins out from under you, what is it that gets you through it? I could go to a shrink for counsel and therapy. I could cry morning and night. I could eat candy bars every day for a year.

Many things work and will help to carry us through a period of great personal grief, or crisis. Is any one thing better than another, when we are faced with hard times?

We can muddle through it, or we can get through it and heal. If we are after a permanent fix, not just a bandaid on our wounds or the problems facing us, the personal presence of God through the Holy Spirit is the only answer.

Jesus alone is the One who can and will comfort, guide, strengthen and be there for us. He loves us unconditionally and He has told us in His word that He will never leave us. HE is the one who gets us through “it”. He is the one we can count on, always and at all times.

That, is good news.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.“ Jeremiah 29:11

PRAYER
"Lord, you have been gracious and merciful towards your people. Fill
me with your Holy Spirit that I may bear witness to the joy of the
