A NEW WAY TO LOOK AT NEW YEAR'S DAY

A NEW WAY TO LOOK AT NEW YEAR'S DAY
By Sarah Freese, We Plan; God Laughs
Dec 29, 2005

"God, I am going to go to a Christian college. I am going to get my
degree in Education. Then I am going to move back home, marry a
handsome Christian guy, have five kids, and teach in a local public
high school. Okay?" This said, I put my Bible away and crashed hard
on my pillow for some beauty sleep before the next day. Little did I
know that the next few months would bring about a life changing
experience and that my little "devotional" session was about to
throw me for a loop. I said those exact words to God approximately 6
months ago. He is still dealing with me because of them. Since then,
I have learned that God may want me to teach overseas. He may want
me to remain single. And probably the worst of all, He may want me
to switch colleges. Being the take-charge person that I am, all of
this was a hard load to swallow. Now you are probably asking what in
the world this has to do with the new year.

Can I ask you a question? What are you doing for New Year's day?
What's that? You already have plans! It is most likely that you also
have plans for a few days after that... maybe even for the next
year. Is God involved in those plans? When you think about New
Year's day and are making your resolutions, why not sit down with
God. Literally take your Bible (get down on your knees if you have
to) and ask God what His will for you is. He may be specific and He
may not be. It all depends on who you are and how God determines the
best way to deal with you. Trust me - you will reap the benefits if
you let God take control. He is a take-charge type of God.

PRAYER
"Lord, you gave your life for my sake, to redeem me from slavery to
sin and death. Help me to carry my cross with joy that I may
willingly do your will and not shrink back out of fear or cowardice
when trouble besets me."
