GOD LIKES WASHING MACHINES
By Bo Sanchez
Nov 1, 2005

I'm a hopeless romantic. My one recurring fantasy is to compose my very own sentimental love song, and sing it to the woman of my dreams. I would stand before her, gently strum away at my guitar and sing my soft serenade, as she caresses a long-stemmed freshl-picked red rose.

And after my rendition is over, she would smile at me, her pretty eyes gazing lovingly at mine, and say with all solemnity, "Your singing voice reminds me of my old washing machine on overload."

Gulp. I would fall face down, my heart shattered to a million piece...Yet as I near the brink of despair, I would suddenly feel her tender and warm hand touch my cheek. I look up and see her naughty grin and her dancing eyes, "Don't worry, Bo, I LOVE my washing machine."

In my own life, I have discovered God to respond in the same way. Because like my singing voice, my love for Him isn't that great. It fails, sputters, wanes, weakens, stumbles, falters...It takes off, sometimes with great exhilaration, only to crash land at some pathetic, arid, and lonely island. Better known as sin, "Give up your journey," the desert rocks cry out to me, "you can't take off again! Its useless!" The sand lizards and vultures shout to me, "why not stay here? We'll keep you company."

When my love for God fails even once, sin wants to keep me as its very own. It says to me, "Give up! God may not forgive you this time around!"

But i have learned to close my ears to these depressing voices around me (and within my own soul!), and take off again. I will struggle to love God once more. I will not stop.

I have learned that God loves that struggle! He likes to hear that struggling love, even if it sounds like a washing machine on overload.

God ahead, Sing to your Divine Beloved.

Love Him with your imperfect love.

Because my singing voice may never improve. But believe me, your love for God will grow. (As to my singing ability, my only hope is that after singing to the woman of my dreams, she will tell me, "Bo your voice reminds me of my brand-new imported expensive air- conditioner.

Oh, your love will soar!

How? By the very struggle of loving Him each day of your life, rising each time you fall.

One of these days, your love will indeed soar to the clouds, and earth will never see its shadow again. For it will be made perfect, glorified to dwell in the very Heart of God....Forever.
