FINDING AN EASIER WAY TO GOD

Finding an Easier Way To
Say Yes to God

Wouldn't it be nice if we could say "yes" once to God and be saved?

Unfortunately life is not so simple and easy. Every day of our lives is
full of moments when we are faced with saying "yes" or "no" to God. We
are confronted with sin and are faced with our own weakness. Many of us
have habits of sinfulness that we have fallen into. We get tired,
angry, and at times obstinate. How do we choose in these instances to
do what God wants?

Is there an easier way to say yes to God? Let me ask you a question.

If a stranger asks you to do something, would you do it? I bet your
answer is that you would have to know more and think about it. Well,
what if your best friend asked you to do something? Would your answer
be different? In my life I find it much easier to say yes to a friend,
particularly one who is caring, loving, and supportive to me. My bride
of 25 years is the best friend whom I have in this life. She is very
loving and caring. I simply love to be around her. She makes me happy
every moment that I spend with her. I find it very hard to say "no" to
anything that she asks. How do you feel about your spouse?

What if we make a decision to enter a continually deepening
relationship with God? What if we treat Him as our best personal
friend?

Our God is even more loving, more caring, and supportive than the best
friend that we will ever meet in this life. How do we know? He is our
Creator, He sustains our existence; He is our Redeemer and Savior; and
He sanctifies us with an endless spring of Divine love, mercy,
forgiveness, and grace. Think of what Jesus suffered for us during His
Passion, Death, and Resurrection. He calls us to be in relationship
with Him. He calls us to love Him. He is our best friend. Will you be
His? As with any friendship, we need to communicate with one another.
We need to share our interests, our joys, and even our pain and
suffering. How do we do this with God? The answer is prayer. Start out
slowly, as we would in any budding friendship and then grow in prayer.
As we grow in this deepening relationship, He will give us the grace to
say "yes" to Him more often, to resist the temptation to sin, and to
more closely reflect Him in our everyday lives.

PRAYER: Dearest Father, Dearest Jesus, Dearest Holy Spirit, give me the
grace to be your best personal friend. Teach me how to share with You
my interests, my joys, my pain, and suffering. Please give me the gift
to love You as You love me. Open my ears, heart, soul, and spirit to
Your endless spring of Divine love, mercy, forgiveness, and grace. I
humbly ask this through Your Beloved Son, our Redeemer and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Amen.
