A THING OF THE HEART
By Sally I. Kennedy
Dec 4, 2006

It couldn’t be this season again. “Already?”, I mused. Seemed like just a month ago we celebrated this holiday. Not a year!

There would be some extra planning and work involved, yet I was excited about being together with family members. My mind drifted to the relatives who would be joining us. Some we saw often, others hardly ever. Maybe weddings and funerals.

As I pictured each person, I thought when it comes to relatives, and relationships with them, it doesn’t seem to matter how much time you spend with them. Being with them is important, for sure. But the main thing seems to be if you just like them or not, and they, you. The connection is not rational; it’s a thing of the heart.

Like my husband’s aunt. We hit it off from the moment we met, many years ago. We seldom saw one another, and though she went to be with the Lord last year, to this day I think of her with great affection. A thing of the heart.

God may have made you smart, handsome, talented, pretty, or funny. But that is not why He loves you. He loves you because you are YOU. He loves your heart…..with His heart.

It’s a thing of the heart, and that is good news.

PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, your coming in the flesh to ransom us from slavery to
sin gives us cause for great rejoicing even in the midst of trials
and pain. Help me to patiently and joyfully accept the hardships,
adversities, and persecution, which come my way in serving you.
Strengthen my faith and give me courage that I may not shrink back
from doing your will".
