THE OTHER HALF

I lost my mother three months ago to pancreatic cancer.
Her death was so sudden and I would like to say painless, but
only she could answer that.
She was gone so quickly; it was her reward I guess. She had so
much faith in our Lord, and I have only gotten stronger because
of that.
Anyway she was in the hospital for few days and was so unsure of
where to go from there. Some people wanted her home and others
wanted her in a hospice home. My dad has always been a good
provider for his family but some seem not to agree on how he
treated mom.
58 years of marriage and 15 children had to count for something.
Her brother's wife practiced with her over and over on how to
tell my dad that she wanted to go to the hospice center. The
next day she phoned me, of all the kids, and said "Cindie, I
know a lot of people don't care for my husband, but I love him
over all his faults, and he has always been there for me through
it all."
I just listened and thought about my relationship with my
husband whom I keep thinking is so much like my dad. I pondered
a long time on what she said and realized life if not all roses,
and the thorns go along with the roses. So if we want beauty
and peace, we have to take the other side too.
How we handle it is all up to us.
Anyway, her decision was to go home and be with her husband.
Once the priest came by and talked she went into the bed and
said all of her goodbyes just once to all of her 15 children and
44 grandchildren. I have never witnessed such a joyous goodbye
and her last words.
One thing she said that goes along with this issue is,
"Just remember, 'Two halves make a whole.'"
